A 22 ft. tall spiral water feature was recently installed at the new Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. The spiral form complements the surrounding space in a whimsical manner, mimicking other sculptural forms in the space. Water Studio worked with HDR and Kiewit Building Group to design and install this innovative water feature.
The design and fabrication process involved extensive engineering and testing that included 3D modeling and complex metal forming. Some details include curved horizontal “ribbons” that reinforce and complement the spiral shape and pure white LED strip lighting to illuminate the twisting Water Veil. The granite pavers which surround the water feature were also sandblasted to match the graphical pattern in the terrazzo flooring. The hospital is still under construction and is expected to open its doors this fall.
