Water Studio designed and built two original water features for Yi Cuisine, a restaurant in Los Angeles. The first and most prominent water feature in the restaurant features a 23-ft. tall triangular water feature integrated into the entryway. Since it can be viewed from the street, the phenomenal display commands an unmatched presence along L.A.’s highly traversed Third Street. Two sides of the column feature the studio’s signature Water Veil measuring up to 5 ft. in width, while the remaining side is clad in copper with a bronze patina finish. The pool of water at the base of the structure is covered with blue glass pebbles that emit luminous reflections.
L.E.D. (light emitting diode) lights illuminate the prominent feature during evenings, which alternate colors in multiple patterns with countless color combinations. Water gently cascades from high above the restaurant along the surfaces of the screen in translucent waves. The combination of cascading water textures, movement, color, and sound creates a unique attraction and focal point for the restaurant.
The interior water feature sits at the rear of the restaurant and consists of five staggered glass water walls positioned in front of a vine-covered wall. A flame burns from behind the translucent water at the center of each glass panel to create the mesmerizing glow of fire through cascading water. The panels stand angled to each other suggestive of the angular form of the primary triangular column at the front of the restaurant. Cascading water, fire, and living plants merge to create a fascinating work of contrasting natural elements.
